Chengdu
The homeland of giant pandas
Join one of our Chengdu Tours
The capital of land-locked Sichuan Province in China’s southwest, Chengdu has a well-earned reputation for its relaxed lifestyle, slower pace, and of course, for its most famous residents, the world’s largest population of giant pandas. Chengdu is hot, humid, and busy with local tourists in summer, and while temperatures drop to single digits in cooler months, there is always a warm welcome, the finest tea, and a traditional Sichuan hotpot to enjoy.
Here’s what you can expect to uncover on a Chengdu tour. Visit Chinese national treasures at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding or visit Dujiangyan Panda Base. Take in the region’s traditional food with a walk along Jinli Street, and spend time admiring the world’s largest stone Buddha statue and picturesque Jiuzhaigou, a pristine natural reserve where traditional local villages with Tibetan and Qiang minorities still exist, virtually as they always have.

highlights in CHENGDU

The Great Wall
Take in the magnitude of the Great Wall stretching more than 20,000 kilometers west of the mountain ridges north of Beijing. The Mutianyu section of the wall, unique for its military watchtowers, now provides travelers with the same incredible views across the mountains outside Beijing as it did for guards of old.

Temple of Heaven
Grandeur for good could be the theme of the Temple of Heaven, a royal site used by emperors to worship heaven for a good harvest and prosperity of the country. The site covers an area four times the size of the Forbidden City. Watch locals as they practice Tai Chi, sing and dance to water calligraphy.

Summer Palace
Wonder at the largest and best-preserved imperial garden in China found at the Summer Palace. Located approximately 15 kilometers north west of the city center, the Summer Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, first built in 1153. The palace garden was the summer retreat for emperors, concubines and, most notably, the Empress Dowager Cixi.

Tiananmen Square
Feel the beat of Tiananmen Square, the political heart of China and a symbol of national spirit. The world’s largest city square covers an impressive 44 hectares.

Forbidden City
Take a peek into the glorious court life of feudal society in China exploring the Forbidden City, which served for over five centuries as the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Magnificent royal architecture clusters and imperial culture now serve as the Beijing Palace Museum, housing a collection of over one million precious relics.

Wudaoying Hutong
Experience both old and new China as expressed in the Wudaoying hutong, where traditional courtyard residences mix with emerging chic restaurants, cafes and boutique shops.
